1. WHAT IS RECRUITMENT/RUSH?

Recruitment, or rush, is a time period around the beginning of each semester where we, the sisters of GMU aKDPhi, organize several social events for you all to attend! It is a time for you to discover what the sorority is all about, get acquainted with our sisters, meet new people, and find out what aKDPhi means to us. Whether you are unsure about joining aKDPhi or only have the slightest bit of interest, we highly encourage you and your friends to come check out the largest nationwide Asian-interest sorority in the country!

2. AM I REQUIRED TO JOIN IF I ATTEND RECRUITMENT EVENTS?

All recruitment events are free and non-binding. The purpose of our events is for you to see whether aKDPhi is the right fit for you and of course for us to get to know you better! Our events are for you to relax and have fun while getting a taste of what it's like to be a part of aKDPhi.

3. DO I HAVE TO BE ASIAN TO JOIN?

Absolutely not! Although we are an Asian-interest sorority, we welcome anyone of all races, religion, lifestyle, age, or grade. All around the nation, our sisters' ethnic backgrounds vary from African-Americans, Caucasians, to Latino-Americans. alpha Kappa Delta Phi highly promotes cultural awareness and we encourage any incoming freshmen who are adjusting to the college life to come out and get to know us.

4. WILL BEING IN A SORORITY AFFECT MY GRADES?

As college students ourselves, we understand and respect the idea that school always comes first. After all, we are here to to graduate and get a degree! It is important to us that each one of our sisters maintain high academic excellence and a minimum GPA is required for all sisters. Additionally, our academic chair will always be there monitor and assist any sister who is struggling so that she can get back on track with her schoolwork.

5. HOW DO I QUALIFY FOR AN INTERVIEW/BID?

In order to qualify for an interview/bid, it is mandatory to attend one informational event and two social events. Remember: our events are for us to get to know you and for you to get to know us and the sorority overall. So with that in mind, be yourself and don't be shy! These events are to allow you to be in a comfortable setting where you are able to be who you want to be and for you to see how we function as a group.

6. DOES AKDPHI HAZE?

Both alpha Kappa Delta Phi and George Mason University have a strict no hazing policy. â€‹We would never intentionally harm or force a new member to do something they do not want to do because that is not how we believe our future sisters should be treated. A bid comes with the understanding that we value you as a future sister of our sorority.

7. WHY AKDPHI?

There is much more to being in a sorority than you think. Because of what we've been exposed to by the public, people tend to believe it's only about having fun and constantly "partying". Becoming a sister of alpha Kappa Delta Phi brings various advantages and experiences, such as:

  • Allowing you to connect with an amazing group of women in the largest nationwide Asian-interest sorority

  • Developing leadership skills through active membership

  • Enhancing your college experience by participating in community service

  • Fostering personal growth among a supportive family of diverse women
